Ed's howidunnit
Ed Johnston won Day 1 at a speed of 106.6kph and scoring 961 points.
'With a decent south-westerly it seemed sensible to not start too late, so I set off East of track under a reasonable run of cu going down wind. Although I made reasonable progress to the first turn, others did better staying West, but we then started to run into better conditions, running up to 95kts with occasional 5kt climbs. I pushed quite hard round Bedford and Corby, getting one lucky break into Corby climbing well alone under an unlikely looking wisp.
It was probably the last leg that made the flight for me, as I set off at cloud base, relatively slowly but using the streets to stay high. As conditions deteriorated, I was high around Morteton in the Marsh and was able to keep going between 2kt climbs, even running through some rain on final glide but not having any major low points.
Overall, a day made by careful routing and changing pace at the right times.'
Ed won a meal for two at the Bell at Sapperton plus some bottled beer from Stroud Brewery.
2nd place Chris Curtis and 3rd place Roy Pentecost both won beer from Stroud Brewery.
